Association and Remote Gambling Association are both
publicly calling out for the European Union to do
something once and for all about the state of the
European gambling industry, specifically the abuse
of power that is taking place within several
European Union member states whose gambling
monopolies are doing more than just being
monopolies. According to a report and study released
by the Swiss Institute of Comparative Law, several
state-owned or sponsored gambling monopolies
traversing the lottery, casino gambling and sports
betting sectors are in direct violation of the
Treaty of Rome, and are abusing their power to
acquire public revenue at the expense of the
consumer's themselves. Italy, France and Germany
have been at the heart of several complaints in
recent times, and now the European Union finds
itself once again being pressured to do something
about this obvious imbalance in a highly competitive
industry that contributes 3% to the Union's Gross
