Online Gambling Adverts Feel Crackdown in the UK
Casino Conditions Staff

While the United Kingdom begins to enforce the strong arm of the new UK Gambling Bill, online casino advertising is beginning to receive somewhat of a crackdown, if you will.  Since the advertising of online casinos is considered illegal in the UK, now that the UK Gambling Bill is beginning to actively regulate the industry, there has been a recent push to bring an end to all ads related to online casino gambling.

The issue now at hand is that some proponents of the ads, which are plenty in number, say that since the location of these ads are actually not located in the UK, they are perfectly legal.  However, the fact that these ads are promoting online casino bonuses and promotions is paramount to enticing UK bettors, which even Britain's Culture Secretary, Tessa Jowell, says is an illegal activity.  She went on to say that online casinos will be pursued with legal action if they continue to advertise for UK residents.

Some may remember the William Hill ads that went under fire for what anti-gambling activists say were linking booze with gambling.  This was a recent occurrence as well, although not related to any measures taken by the Parliament.  Yet, despite the gray areas, some online casino operators, like Party Gaming, are claiming to be doing nothing illegal in their marketing affairs.

It has not been discussed as to which casinos have been in violation of placing unlimited advertisements in public facilities and throughout the public transportation system.  Whether it be third party affiliates or not, the gaming owners themselves are ultimately responsible, especially when it comes time for possible legal repercussions.
