Online Casinos Still on Track for Licensing From Alexander

The Mohawk Indian tribe is receiving more heat from Alberta, Canada's top law enforcement official, who is now saying the Mohawks are advising the Alexander First nation on how to set up an online gambling commission, much like their very own - the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. Solicitor General Fred Lindsay recently stated the Mohawks are participating in illegal activities via their own online gambling commission, and are further adding fuel to the fire by aiding the Alexander First Nation to do the same.

Lindsay is a couple steps behind, however, considering that Alexander First Nation has long since formed their very own online gaming commission, as well as Alexander Internet Technologies. Considering the commission was formed nearly a year ago, and that construction has already begun for Alexander's technology and server center, Lindsay may be a little late for his threats to have a lasting impact.

One thing is certain, however. Canada is not looking as enticing to some online casino operators as it once did. Just recently - and quite abruptly - English Harbour Ventures, which owns and operates English Harbour Casino, Super Slots and Caribbean Gold Casino, pulled out of the Canadian online casino gambling market. Just prior to this, the Curacao-based VIP Group announced they would cease taking funds from Canadian online gamblers. Despite these dropouts, Canada as a whole still looks profitable for operators. The Kahnawake Gaming Commission's 400+ online gambling sites are doing quite well.

In the eyes of Solicitor General Lindsay, all of these sites are being illegally operated. As of this moment, no criminal charges have been made since the Alexander tribe has not actually licensed any online casinos just yet. Lindsay said that if they do not "cease and desist" their intent to begin licensing online gambling sites from within the province of Alberta, they will be going against the Criminal Code of Canada, and will be dealt with as law breakers. The only response from the Alexander Nation at this time is that as a sovereign nation, they view themselves with the sovereign right to offer online gambling activities if they so choose - And the Alexander Gaming Commission will be the means which to do so.
