The recent addition of an online casino licensing
and gaming commission, namely the Alexander Gaming Commission, is great news for
the internet gambling industry, not to mention excellent timing for it as well.
Along with the Mohawk Nation, who oversees the Kahnawakee Gaming Commission, the
Alexander First nation Band has delegated yet another North American Gaming
Commission to regulate online casino gambling - all in the wake of the recently
passed U.S. anti-internet betting legislation.
The Alexander Gaming Commission, said an Alexander
spokesperson, was established on March 24, 2006, pursuant to the Alexander First
Nation Band Council Resolution 2005.2006.057 and Alexander Gaming Law, which
strives to enforce "comprehensive, socially responsible internet gaming
regulations", imposed on the qualified recipients of online gaming licenses. The
Commission expressed its confidence in providing a safe and top-quality betting
environment for online casino gamers.
According to the tribe's press release, the
regulations are designed to ensure all gaming activities taking place at
licensed casinos and betting sites operating within the Alexander First Nation
or by the Alexander Nation are conducted by qualified and suitable operators
overseeing the provisions of fair odds and guaranteed, timely payouts. In
addition to the formation of the Alexander Gaming Commission and Internet Gaming
Regulations, Alexander First Nation is completing the construction of a 25,000
square foot, modern data center which will be housed by Alexander Internet
Technologies.
The entrance of the Alexander Gaming Commission is
so far being welcomed with open arms by the online casino gambling industry.
However, there are concerns that as more self-appointed Gaming Commission's
adopt internet gambling laws, the larger the gap will be in universal regulation
standards, which on the other hand, is being espoused and championed by a large
number of industry officials who recognize the fact that the World Wide Web is
precisely just that - A world wide entity that only reinforces the need for
economic globalization. Yet, when all is said and done, it is clear to most that
the Alexander Gaming Commission's internet gaming laws are to par with the
industry's leading regulators, such as Kahnawake, the United Kingdom and
standards imposed by eCOGRA.
