Online Casino Project >>> European Blackjack Rules

The rules for European Blackjack follow. With many of the same rules as other forms of blackjack, those rules that distinguish the game of European Blackjack are mentioned below. The objective of the game is the same as that of standard Blackjack:

General Playing Rules:

  • European Blackjack is played with two 52-card decks.

  • European Blackjack is not a hole card game, meaning the dealer does not have a face down card. The dealer is only dealt one upturned card until the player is finished acting on their hand.

  • The casino dealer must always hit on 16 and stand on 17. The dealer must stand on Soft 17 also.

  • The player is permitted to receive up to nine hits on top of the two initially dealt cards.

  • Late Surrender is not permitted at European Blackjack.

Betting Structure and Payouts:

  • An Ace with a ten value card is deemed a Blackjack (twenty-one). All hands automatically stand on Blackjack, which cannot be beaten, only tied. Payout on blackjack should be 3 to 2.

  • All wagers are returned on pushed bets.

  • Double Downs and split hands are lost when the dealer hits a Blackjack.

Splitting Hands:

  • Aces may be split one time per game. A card value of twenty-one containing a split Ace is not counted as Blackjack.

  • Split Aces are allowed more than one draw per new hand.

  • In European Blackjack, cards must be of the same denomination in order to be split, such as two fives. Cards of the same value, such as a ten and a King, cannot be split into two hands.

  • Doubling down on a split hand is not permitted. The double down stake is equal to the original wager.

Doubling Down:

  • Doubling down on a split hand is not permitted. The double down stake is equal to the original wager.

  • Doubling down is only permitted on card totals of 9,10, or 11.

  • Only one additional card is dealt when a player opts to double down.

Insurance:

  • Insurance is not permitted on hands that have been acted upon already.

  • Insurance cannot be taken on a Split hand or on one that was doubled down.

  • Insurance will payout the player 2 to 1 when the dealer hits a blackjack

  • The insurance wager is in the amount of half the initial bet.

  • Insurance is only offered when the dealer's up-card is showing an Ace.
