Could legal online gambling or legal online poker in the United States be part of a job creation bill? Well, I don’t know if it will actually be put on the bill, but if you stop and look at online gambling and online poker, yes, it does create jobs. See, this is something people often don’t realize about online gambling – it creates jobs. Now, people understand the job concept more easily when it comes to land based casinos. After all, if you’ve even been in a land based casino or seen one on TV, you know they’re filled with employees. Someone has to deal the cards. Someone else has to bring the players drinks. People are needed to work in the restaurants and the hotels associated with many casinos. So, we know land based casinos create jobs.
But people often don’t see the jobs created with online casinos, so they aren’t as aware of them. But an online casino creates jobs for online casino game developers, programmers, graphic designers, marketing staff, telephone support and more. And many of these jobs are high paying jobs, including those developer and programmer jobs.
Now, there is a critical part to making these US jobs – we need legalized online gambling and online poker in the United States and those businesses need to be run in the United States. Right now Americans are gambling online. The feds aren’t going to stop them. But all the money and jobs are leaving the country and going to overseas operators. And since those operators are overseas, it’s impossible for the US to guarantee safe and fair play and protect players. So this is a situation that helps no one while legal online gambling would help everyone.
