Online Casinos could bring jobs to Ireland

Politicians in Ireland are on the verge of voting in legislation that could regulate online gaming and create as many as 8,000 jobs.  But first they have to amend a 1956 Gaming and Lotteries Act to bring industries into the nation.  But the legislation and regulations have to be in place to attract casino business who are very particular about where they house their businesses.

Ireland isn’t just seeking to legalize online gambling but rather to attract casinos to set up their operations in Ireland and bring in both jobs and money.  Already Pocket Kings has create 600 jobs in Dublin and Paddy Power has made a 250 job investment.  Malta currently has 19 online casinos doing business in the country and France and Spain are working to attract businesses.  So Ireland needs to act quickly if it wants the jobs that come with the industry.

The jobs created would be professional jobs, mostly for financial analysts, e-commerce experts and web developers. These jobs usually have a higher pay rate than the service industry jobs that a brick and mortar casino brings.  In addition to the jobs within the casino industry itself, there would be jobs created for data centers and energy services in the country.  Of course, more jobs would mean a higher level of spending in the country.

But there is still a misconception about the online gambling industry in the country.  Online casinos wouldn’t create an Atlantic City or Las Vegas in Ireland.  Just an attractive location for internet industries.
