Oh, come on! Full Tilt Poker has come out with a statement regarding their inability to pay the money owed to players and y’all, it’s not their fault! Really, none of it. They’re the victims here and they’re gonna cry us a river.
So, for those new to online poker news, here’s how it went down. On April 15th, the FBI seized the domain names and bank accounts of 4 online poker rooms operating in the US – Full Tilt Poker, PokerStars, UB.com and Absolute Poker. Now, the poker rooms were only shut down for US operation, a fact demonstrated by the fact that ALL FOUR kept operations going overseas after the shutdown under different domain names. This isn’t debatable. It happened. Absolute Poker and UB.com didn’t even stop US players from playing on the non-US operation if they already had accounts and software. And while PokerStars did shut down its US operation, it is still running successfully in the UK and EU and has paid out funds owed to US players.
Full Tilt has yet to pay US players who had money in Full Tilt accounts when the feds shut them down. And that combined with reports of “slow” payments to EU players caused the Alderney Gambling Control Commission to suspend Full Tilt’s license pending reviews and basically them coughing up the money they owe.
So, what’s Full Tilt up to? Well, they’ve issued a statement explaining how it’s all the fault of the evil bad boogey man. “Full Tilt Poker never anticipated that the DOJ would proceed as it did by seizing our global domain name and shutting down the site worldwide.” Nope. The DOJ didn’t shut the site down worldwide. PokerStars was caught in the same FBI net and is still running outside the US. Alderney shut down Full Tilt Poker and that was because the site wasn’t paying money owed to players. Oh, but that’s because “In addition, as was widely reported, a key payment processor stole approximately $42M from Full Tilt Poker.”
