Card drilling is one of the best ways to ingrain a playing strategy that requires a great deal of concentration and memorization.  Take the Universal Blackjack Strategy, for instance, which requires the player to memorize a long list of possible hand combinations for both the dealer's and their own hand.

The only way to master strategy's like this is to practice repeatedly in the mode of card drilling.  This entails that one should play hand after hand (with an imaginary dealer) and finish each hand according to the strategy dictates.  In the beginning, the player will likely need to refer to a strategy chart. 

However, with repeated drilling, not only will the dependence of an outside reference be phased out, the player will no longer need to think twice.  Rather, they will act on each hand with confidence and speed.
