The Increasing Use of Casino Gaming Forums & Boards
by Colby Lewis, Strategy and Games Writer

Continuing with our series of tips derived from the findings of the 2006 eCOGRA Global Gambler Survey, we are going to discuss a tool which internet gamblers have been increasingly making use of when searching for an online casino, a free cash bonus, or to simply touch base with other players to stay abreast with what is "hot" and what is not in the gaming industry.

As you may guess, what we are referring to are gambling forums. According to eCOGRA's latest report, approximately 40% of internet gamblers say they visit forums and message boards on a regular basis. Of those players who regularly make use of forums, the reasons for doing so and the frequency of such use slightly varied.

The vast majority of forum users (64.6%) did so to find out about the latest free cash bonus offers, while 53.4% of forum visitors would log on just to get wind of who were the best online casinos and who were the blacklisted online casinos. The frequency of forum visits by single players was one to three times a day for over 39% of visitors and one to three times each week for a slightly smaller percentage of those players who say they frequented gambling forums.

The survey also showed that poker players were more likely to repeatedly visit forums more than casino gamblers. While both types of gamblers share common motivations to visit forums, there is simply more to discuss in the areas of strategy for poker playing.

The bottom line is that the growing interest in gambling forums is indicative of players spending more time thinking about their gambling sessions - and that is a good thing. The fact that gamblers are repeatedly going on the Web and interacting with one another also shows that internet gambling (at both casinos and poker rooms) has become a growing pastime.

Although most players say they do not visit forums to socialize, one cannot deny the fact that receiving personalized responses to forum threads is something to look forward to. Furthermore, players often feel the need to give back and help other players in the same they have been helped. Our suggestion here and now is that you give forums a chance. Just be sure the advice you are given is not biased or unsubstantiated. Confirm with many other players - not just one of two.
