Online Poker Strategy Tip All of the Time

When playing online poker in the casino or internet poker room, there a few simple strategic actions that players should be using at all times.

The very first thing a player should do is determine what kind of competition they are facing at a particular poker table.  If you think that playing with tougher players will only help you become a better player yourself, you are wrong.  Unless you have somebody schooling you at the same time, trying to keep up with more experienced, sharper players only means one thing - victimization.  To keep this from happening, always take some time to watch the table you are thinking about joining from afar first.

Also, be sure you are considering only those tables that you can afford to play.  Most poker professionals will tell players they will need at least fifty times the minimum table limit.  In addition to watching your opponents while you play - in order to pin them with betting patterns - you should be watching over your own actions.  Most particularly, you should be careful not to bluff to often, for this can be a big trap for losing all of your money.  Only bluff when there is a very low risk of being called.

And speaking of calling, only call your own hand when you are willing to raise, which surmounts to thinking you have the best poker hand at the table.

Lastly, be sure you are folding more hands than not.  Again, the best poker players will fold at least 70% of their starting hands.  It is the high starting hands that will end up making up for several lost antes and smaller pot contributions and paying big in the long run.
