Four Card Poker Tips and Strategy

The optimal strategy for Four Card Poker is quite simple to memorize. There is a basic strategy guide published by Shuffle Master - who incidentally, invented the game - which states that players can get a 98.41% return on the combined Ante wager and winning Ante Bonus. Although this may vary slightly, depending on which casino you are playing at (some casinos offer better ante bonus payout schedules than others) On average, the House Edge will be around 3.6% when played with optimized strategy.

The best payouts, based on the risk, come from 1x and 3x ante bets. As such, Four Card Poker strategists advise not to ever make a 2x ante bet. In other words, risking only 1x most of the time will help you stretch your bankroll out for when it is most advantageous to make a 3x ante bet. On a similar note, the Aces Up bet should either be avoided or kept to a minimum. Again, the payout for this wager will wager, depending on where you are playing. Three payout tables have been known to be offered, all of which give the same payouts from a Pair of Aces (1 to 1) to a Flush (6 to 1). 3 of a Kind may pay 7 to 1 or 9 to 1, Straight Flushes may pay 30 to 1 or 40 to 1, while 4 of a Kinds generally always pay 50 to 1 across the board. Obviously, the best payout schedule is most desirous, and will help to bring the House Edge down somewhat. However, if you do not plan on making the Aces Up bet, search out those tables that offer the best Ante Bonus payouts.

The strategy itself for playing hands and making Ante raises essentially amounts to three actions:

Three any of the three following three actions:

Bet three times (3x) your Ante if you have been dealt a hand with a Pair of Tens or better. Only bet one time (1x) your Ante if you have been dealt a hand with a Pair of 3's, 4's, 5's, 6's, 7's, 8's or 9's. Fold the hand you have been dealt (forfeiting your ante wager) if it has nothing better than a Pair of 2's. And remember, avoid making the 2x ante raise.

Based on these actions above, it is mathematically valid that you will fold your cards around 47% of the time. A 1x ante raise will take place about 24% of the hands dealt, while the 3x ante raise will present itself about 29% of the hands dealt to you. When making the maximum 3x bet, your chances of winning are roughly around 70% of the time. If you are looking to play Four Card Poker at an online casino, you may be hard pressed. Most online casinos do not offer this game just yet, but will likely do so in the near future considering the popular success of Three Card Poker.
