Online Casino Gambling
Welcome UK gamblers. This page is devoted
strictly to the UK online gambling industry, thus being
comprised of all things relevant to the UK casino
gambler. Let us first begin by stating that no other
sector of the internet gambling industry is more heavily
regulated and monitored than that of the United Kingdom.
Following the passing of the UK Gambling Bill - with
enforcement mandates now in place - Britain became the
first global leader to embrace the regulation of online
casinos, bookmakers, poker rooms and games of skill
accepting real money wagers. Immediately below, we
present UK online casino reviews of what we have deemed
the top sites in the UK casinos market. They are either
regulated by the UK government itself or by other
similar gaming bodies, such as those of Alderney,
Gibraltar and Netherlands, Antilles. What's most
important is they all cater to UK players, permitting
the use of several currencies, including Pounds, Euros
and Dollars. Below our summary casino reviews, we discuss
relevant topics for the UK gambler, including UK
regulations protocols and the most current and relevant news regarding the
United Kingdom
gambling industry.

With an approximate
turnover of 53 billion in UK gambling revenue for 2005,
it is quite apparent that gambling is a popular activity
in the UK. According to the British gambling Prevalence
Study published at the new millennium, nearly
three-quarters of the UK population had taken part in
some form of gambling the year prior. Other than the
National Lottery, approximately 46% of Britons wagered
money on betting activities. Following the lottery in
terms of popular betting activities were scratch cards,
fruit machines and horseracing. The next Prevalence
Study will be published later in 2007, and is expected
to show similar findings, if not greater percentages in
all of the aforementioned areas, including online casino
gambling.
The online gambling
industry owes a great deal of its uncorrupted
existence to the United Kingdom. We put great emphasis
on the word uncorrupted, for no other world
leader has embraced the regulation of online gambling in
the manner in which the United Kingdom has. The UK
Gambling Act was given Royal Assent in April of 2005.
Under its protocols, the UK Gambling Commission was
established, which has now taken over many of the
functions of the Gaming Board (established under the
1968 Gaming Act). Beginning in 2007, the Gambling
Commission has a large scope of enforcement powers with
the primary aims of keeping crime and corruption out of
gambling, ensuring gambling activities are offered in a
fair and open environment, and that the vulnerable and
underage are protected from the potential harms of real
stakes betting. The enforcement provisions and
regulations were developed by the Department for Culture
Media and Sport (under advisement by
eCOGRA), while the
Commission itself is accountable to the Secretary of
State and Parliament.
With the Gambling
Commission overseeing all licensed online gambling
activities being offered in the U.K., there is no wonder
why online casino operators are seeking to base
themselves out of this highly stable and credentialed
environment. Operators must apply for online gambling
licenses through the commission, who in turn, impose
strict conditions on each license granted. Minimum
licensing conditions give the U.K. Gambling Commission
the power to review and amend licenses at all times,
impose formal warnings, sanctions, fines, and
revocations. The commission also has the power to
initiate formal searches and seizures, as well as
criminal proceedings.
The new license conditions
and codes require online casino and gaming site
operators to have comprehensive problem and underage
gambling prevention protocols in place, as well as
provide a transparent environment in which players have
access to information which explains all game rules and
betting odds. In order for UK casino operators to keep
their licenses, gaming equipment, such as servers and
software platforms, must be operated within the UK. Any
non-licensed operator with at least one component of
online gaming operations in the UK, irregardless of
offering services to UK citizens or not, will be deemed
in violation of the UK Gambling Act.
Again, for a UK online
casino seeking to establish a sound reputation of
trustworthiness and fairness, applying for an online
gambling license through the UK Gambling Commission is a
commendable path. While it might be more work to satisfy
the strict regulation protocols of the UK Gambling Act,
nothing can be more greatly valued than a players trust.
In order for the online gambling industry to continue
and thrive - not be given into the hands of criminals
and fraudsters - it must be soundly regulated as the
United Kingdom has so successfully exemplified. Cheers
UK!
