any gambling game. When played with optimized strategy
(making all the proper discard decisions), the expected
value of return can actually be in the players favor. Of

appropriate video poker strategy is in order.
Regarding
partial pay and full pay machines, players should always
seek out full pay machines. It sounds like a no-brainer,
but land-based casinos are good at sneaking partial pay
machines into banks of full-pay machines (Online gamblers
need not be concerned about having a partial play
machine snuk in amongst full pay machines, for the
software can only offer one kind or the other). In order to find
out which is which, players need to know what the most
advantageous payout schedule looks like. For
non-progressive, non-bonus games of Jacks or Better a full
payout is 9 coins to 1 for a Full House and 6 coins to 1
for a Flush. A partial-pay machine is often 8 coins to 1
for a Full House and 5 coins to 1 for Flush (sometimes
even lower).
For Deuces Wild, a full payout is 9 coins to
1 for a Straight Flush and 5 coins to 1 for a
Four-of-a-Kind. A partial payout machine is usually 9
coins to 1 for a Straight Flush and 4 coins to 1 for a
Four-of-a-Kind. Some machines will payout 13 to 1 for a
Straight Flush and 4 to 1 for a Four-of-a-Kind. The
question then is, is it more advantageous to have a better
payout for the Four-of-a-Kind or for the Straight Flush?
Well, this is where the use of video poker payout
calculators come in handy. The better odds are actually for
the 9 to 1/9 to 5 payout.
When playing at an online
casino - depending on the software developer - payouts do
indeed vary, so it is up to each player to fully
investigate the payout tables beforehand. This can be done
by perusing through the game preview screens on an
online casinos website, contacting customer support or
opening a Play-for-Fun account and testing out the games
firsthand.
